These Are The Disgusting Reasons You Should Never Wear Shoes At Home

Were you raised to take your shoes off in the house or keep them on? Experts take a closer look at the habit of keeping them on and… well, you’ll just have to see for yourself.

Picture yourself walking down the street, enjoying the cool breeze and catching some Vitamin D from the sun. Do you stare blankly at the ground cautious about every leaf and soil that your shoes touch? Most likely not, right?

Well, let us tell you what latches onto your shoes.

One word: Bacteria. More specifically, your shoes are magnets for sources of E. coli such as bird droppings, dog waste, and public bathroom floors to name a few. Leaves and debris also carry plenty of bacteria even if you argue that you can’t see it.

According to studies, your shoes have on average 421,000 different types of bacteria, and if you step foot in your home with your shoes on, you transfer 90-99% of that bacteria. You don’t even have to do the math to realize that’s an awful lot of bacteria in your home just from wearing your shoes indoors.

E. Coli and It’s Harmful Effects

Breaking down just one of those bacteria, E. coli (Escherichia coli) is a bacterium that lives in your intestines. It can lead to diarrhea, intestinal problems, and urinary tract infections.

Symptoms of infection include abdominal cramps, diarrhea (which can be bloody), nausea, and constant fatigue. The way you get infected is when you swallow even a small amount of the E. coli bacteria.

Now you’re probably thinking, that’s a lot that can come from the sole of a shoe. It can’t possibly get any worse than hundreds of thousands of bacteria carried by it. Well, we hate to break it to you but you’re wrong, it does get worse.

Clostridium Difficile Can Be Life Threatening

A new study in Houston, Texas found that your shoes carry a harmful bacterium called C difficile (Clostridium difficile), which causes life-threatening inflammation of the colon. Previously, they thought it’s usually caught in healthcare settings, but that’s far from the truth. When they took 2538 samples, only 448 came from hospitals.

The rest of the sample found that this bacterium caught on shoes from parks, chain stores, fast food restaurants and commercial stores. Furthermore, they found traces of this bacteria in people’s homes via their shoes. On average, 25% of people’s shoes carry this bacterium.

Signs and Symptoms of C. Difficile

Approximate 500,000 people in the United States get sick from C. difficile, and the numbers have been climbing in recent years. This infection is also becoming more difficult to treat.

People severely infected with c. difficile get dehydrated along with symptoms of fever, blood or pus in the stool, swollen abdomen, rapid heart rate, and many others.

See your doctor if you have three or more watery stools a day and symptoms lasting more than two days.

Simple Solution to Avoid Carrying Bacteria Into Your Home

The good news is that you can avoid carrying these bacteria into your home by simply removing your shoes before you enter your main living area. If you’re opting to wipe them on a mat instead, don’t!

Just because you’re wiping off visible dirt doesn’t mean your shoes are free of bacteria. What that does is add more bacteria to your mat or potentially pick up more dirt for your shoes to carry.

If wearing your shoes inside your home is a habit of yours, seriously consider breaking it. It will free you and your family of thousands of bacteria you didn’t even know you brought into your home and that results in a more sanitary living situation overall.

Top 5 Best Movies of 2018 So Far

2018 has been a roller coaster of cinematic year.

Disney continue to rule the world thanks to all of the Marvel and Star Wars and Pixar releases, while the high benchmark of quality horror set by 2017 has continued to power on through to this year too, with some of the very best and very worst releases to be found in that genre.

So without further ado, here are our top five and bottom five movies of 2018 so far…

#5 – BLOCKERS

It was a toss up between this and Game Night, but we had to give this one the edge, simply because the trailer was so horrendously awful, that the really-very-funny final product came as a total shock.

Plus, the female-centric coming-of-age sex comedy gave us a new angle on a done-to-death sub-genre. Plus there was butt-chugging, and that’s never not funny.

#4 – ANNIHILATION

The guy behind Ex Machina returns with a Netflix exclusive about an all-female scientist group sent into the woods to find out why every other scientist group that has gone in there have never come back. One of the most visually beautiful horrors ever made, and with the kind of IQ that is probably exactly the reason why they kept it away from the cinema in the end.

Natalie Portman delivers a brilliant performance, but really this is another feather in the cap for writer/director Alex Garland.

#3 – YOU WERE NEVER REALLY HERE

The best movie nobody went to see. Resident cinematic oddball Joaquin Phoenix plays a .. well, a bit of a total oddball in Lynne Ramsey’s first movie since 2011’s We Need To Talk About Kevin. The writer/director of Movies With Very Long Titles gives us a super-grimy revenge story, with Phoenix playing a kind-of-assassin, who ends up diving headlong into a child sex ring and the powerful men who run it don’t want him snooping around.

This kind of film that requires a shower immediately afterwards, but also one that will have you talking about it non-stop for days.

#2 – A QUIET PLACE

John Krasinski pulled off triple-duty here, playing writer/director/star for this minimalist horror with a face-palm’ingly obvious, why-didn’t-anyone-think-of-this-before premise. Monsters will kill you if you make any noise, so silence is your friend.

The movie forced audiences to let their popcorn go uneaten as the fear of making any noise spilled into reality, as the Krasinski and real-life wife Emily Blunt managed to get you on the family’s side almost immediately, and then follow through with some of the most insanely tense set-pieces you can imagine.

#1 – HEREDITARY

Despite the many shocking scenes, Hereditary is so much more than that. Oscar-worthy performances. Absolutely beautiful imagery. A thoughtful drama on the stresses of family and the damages passed on down from parents to their children. And then there is the horror aspect, which creeps under your skin just enough to be constantly setting off goosebumps, all the while building up a constant sense of dread.

Normal horror movies, there is a build up, and then there is a scare, and then our tension is reset to zero. In Hereditary, there is a build up, and then a scare, but there is no relief. It simply continues to build up the tension until you’re convinced you’re going to have a panic attack. More endurance test than entertainment, and all the better for it.

Meet the Kid Who’s Never Eaten a Gram of Refined Sugar in Her Life- Here’s What She Looks Like Today

Sugar addiction is a global problem, and our children are raised believing that sugar and sweets are a reward for being good or a way to celebrate a special occasion.

Thus, the birthday cakes are the most important thing on a birthday party, our holiday tables are full of sweets and just think about the entire celebration of Easter, with the chocolate bunnies, or Halloween, and Trick-or-treating.

Yet, the mother of a two-and-a-half-year-old girl, Grace Cooper, decided to omit refined sugar, dairy, grains, and processed foods from her diet, and follow the Paleo diet.

Her breakfast contains carrots, roasted sweet potatoes, eggs in coconut oil, steamed broccoli, a quarter of an avocado, and a spoonful of sauerkraut, while her dinner consists of organic chicken and vegetables.

Shan, the mother of Grace, claims that her daughter’s immune system is extremely strong, so she has only had one cold so far. Yet, she maintains that even though she will still guide Grace, when she is older, she will not force her to follow this diet.

Despite sugar, baby food is full of chemicals, sodium, preservatives, lead, and fluoride, all of which can have disastrous effects on the health of children and toddlers.

On the other hand, as the taste buds of babies are developing and sensitive, there is no need of eating refined foods, since they can be perfectly satisfied with some organic source of sugar.

Numerous baby foods are extremely high in sugar, even though their labels are deceiving. Namely, the vegetables and fruits are processed using ultra-high heat and shipped to baby food manufactures, which boil them down, eliminating most of the nutrients, and leaving only the high sugar levels.

For instance, take a look at the nutritional values of two 71- gram servings of commercial banana purees and an actual mashed banana:

Mashed banana

*Sugar: 8.7 grams (naturally occurring )

Sodium: < 1 milligram

Fiber: 1.8 grams

Earth’s Best 1st Bananas

*Sugar: 12 grams

 Sodium: 20 milligrams

Fiber: 1 gram

*4 grams = 1 teaspoon of sugar

Gerber 1st Foods Banana Purée

*Sugar: 13 grams

Sodium: 5 milligrams

Fiber: < 1 gram

When it comes to the safe amount of sugar our children can consume, according to Dr. Svetlana Pomerantes, MD:

“Let’s start by looking at American Heart Association (AHA) recommendations. The new guidelines call for less than 25 grams (6 teaspoons) of sugar per day for children ages 2 to 18 years. That includes no more than 8 ounces of sugar-sweetened drinks per week. I advise parents to read food labels, find ‘sugar,’ and do the math — every 4 grams of sugar equals 1 teaspoon. “

She continues:

“The worst sugars are in processed foods, sports drinks, pop, desserts, and fruit juice. Don’t rush to introduce fruit juice — it has no nutritional value.”

Similarly,  Dr. Edward Gaydos, DO, says:

“Children younger than 2 years should have no sugar at all”, and adds that “eating brings joy, but that joy should be geared toward the process of satisfying hunger and spending time with family. Children can’t choose a well-balanced diet. But adults can, and should — right from the beginning.”

Sugar is highly addictive and leads to obesity and type-2 diabetes, you should work hard to lower your child’s consumption of refined sugars, and here are some useful tips:

-Lower your sugar intake to set an example

-Try to eat at home as often as possible

-Try to explain the benefits of healthy foods and make sure you have food rules when going out

-Avoid keeping sugar-rich foods at home

-Explain your goals to other members of your family, so they can support you

-Do not reward your children with candy

Yet, if you have a sweet tooth, do not despair, as you do not need to forget about desserts if you decide to ditch refined sugar from your diet, since there are perfectly healthy alternatives you can use instead, like honey and pure maple syrup.

Never fall sick again! This syrup recipe can cure a cold or flu in 2 days

Here’s a super immune boosting homemade cough and cold syrup that will help shorten the duration and alleviate the symptoms of a cold or cough.

This homemade cough and cold syrup is a tried and true remedy at our house.

We take it at the first sign of illness to kick colds and coughs in the booty!

All the ingredients in this homemade cough and cold syrup have powerful healing properties to aid in helping a cold and cough:

Raw Honey – According to multiple studies, honey is just as effective in helping a cough as over the counter cough medicine (source). And it’s no wonder why. Honey contains powerful anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-inflammatory properties.

In fact, honey strengthens the white blood corpuscles to fight bacterial and viral diseases. Just make sure your honey is raw and not heat treated. The beneficial nutrients and enzymes get destroyed when the honey is not raw. Finding local, raw honey is always best, but if you can’t find it,

Coconut oil – The large amount of lauric acid in coconut oil kills bacteria, viruses and fungi, which helps to starve off infections.

Furthermore, when coconut oil is enzymatically digested, it also forms a monoglyceride called monolaurin. Like lauric acid, monolaurin also kills harmful pathogens like bacteria, viruses, and fungi.

Fresh Lemon – Lemons are packed with Vitamin C and flavonoids, which aid in supporting the body’s natural defenses.

Cinnamon – Cinnamon contains anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-fungal properties.

*Do not give this homemade cough and cold syrup to children under one year old, as they should not consume honey.

Ingredients

– 3 tablespoons raw honey

– 2 tablespoons unrefined coconut oil, melted

– 1 lemon, juiced

– 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

1. Combine all ingredients until well mixed. (Do not heat your honey. Heating destroys the beneficial enzymes. If you must heat your honey, do so at the lowest temperature possible)

2. Take 1-2 teaspoons, 3 to 5 times a day at the first sign of a cold or cough.

Notes

Honey should not be given to infants under 1 year old due to the risk of botulism.

Love Nutella? Here’s Why You Should Never Eat It And Opt For A Healthier Alternative Recipe

Nutella was a pantry staple of mine for many years, until I started to learn more about nutrition and how to decipher labeled ingredients.

In theory Nutella is pretty healthy, chocolate has been shown to release happy hormones in the brain along with other benefits. Hazelnuts are high in vitamin E, various minerals such as magnesium and essential fatty acids.

Then there’s skim milk which many people have been led to believe is a healthy food for strong bones and teeth.

No wonder people are giving their children Nutella sandwiches for lunch, thinking it’s a healthy treat. But when you find out what’s really in that jar of chocolate hazelnut spread, you may think twice about eating Nutella.

What’s Really In My Nutella?

Sugar

It’s no surprise that the number one ingredient in Nutella is refined sugar. A whopping 21 grams in 2 Tbs! This is equivalent to an Oh Henry bar or three lollipops.

There aren’t many people who would eat lollipops and candy bars for breakfast. One mother even sued the company for making claims that Nutella is a healthy whole food to feed her daughter.

On top of the heinous amount of sugar, they aren’t even using real sugar.

Genetically modified sugar beets are a cheap sweetener that many big companies use to save money.

Independent studies show major health implications from GMO “frankenfoods”, such as digestive problems, liver and kidney toxicity, and in the case of sugar beets, increased risk of diabetes .

Palm Oil

Palm oil is a controversial ingredient as its production is unsustainable and destroying important and fragile ecosystems.

Though it is a healthy saturated fat (which is fine if consumed in moderation), the method of procuring it involves unsavory practices like massive deforestation, indigenous rights abuses and animal cruelty.

The WWF (World Wildlife Fund) states that the equivalent of 300 football fields of rainforest are cleared every hour to make way for more palm oil production.

Soy Lecithin

This ubiquitous ingredient is present in nearly all processed food. A by-product of soy oil production, soy lecithin is used as an emulsifying agent.

Soy is another one of those pseudo health foods touted by the FDA to be part of a healthy diet. What they’ve failed to realize is nearly all soy is genetically modified, and it’s a substance with markedly high levels of xenoestrogens.

These xenoestrogens are part of the reason reproductive cancer rates are soaring, they can cause low levels of testosterone in men, early onset of puberty, thyroid problems and more.

The soy industry has to be one of the sneakiest out there. Nearly all commercial livestock in North America are fed GMO soy.

We are only beginning to see the implications of this food in our society. Bottom line, soy is in most processed food, make your own goodies and you won’t have to worry about it.

Vanillin

Vanillin is an artificial flavoring agent made entirely from chemicals devised in a lab to trick your taste-buds into believing it’s the real thing.

Corporations save big money using fake additives like these. This chemical food is highly addictive, the excitatory qualities of vanillin throw your brain cells into overdrive, causing a short term boost in serotonin only to knock you to the ground ten minutes later. Vanillin is a neurotoxin and you are far better off using real vanilla.

A Few More Things To Pay Attention To

Hazelnuts

One of the oldest crops known to man, hazelnuts originated near the Black Sea. Today they’re grown commercially in Canada, U.S and Turkey.

Hazelnuts are full of nutrients as I’ve mentioned in my post about the health benefits of nuts and seeds, but most often they are sprayed with pesticides.

When buying hazelnuts try and source organic nuts free of pesticide contamination.

Cocoa

Although cocoa is very healthy, and I’ve already written a post about the health benefits of cocoa, in some cases, workers in the cocoa industry are paid next to nothing. So it’s best to buy organic and fair trade cocoa and chocolate.

According to my research, Nutella does not use fair trade cocoa.

Skim Milk

For decades, high milk consumption has been recommended for the prevention of osteoporotic fractures. But as time went on, its health benefits were questioned. Many nutritional experts became cautious about milk, especially when consumed in large quantities.

Heard enough about all the junk in this “healthy” spread? Isn’t it a bit nuts to claim such a slew of industrial by-products and 12 chocolate bars worth of sugar per jar could ever be touted as a healthy breakfast or snack.

Especially to be pushing such a dishonest agenda towards parents of young children. Even if you love Nutella, try making your own!

You’ll see just how easy it is to make a delicious chocolate hazelnut spread from real wholesome ingredients.

How to Make Your Own Nutella

nutella

Ingredients

1½ C roasted hazlenuts

2 Tbs cacao powder or paste (melted)

2 Tbs coconut oil, melted

⅓ C raw honey

½ tsp sea salt

¼-1/3 C water

Instructions

1. In a high powered blender or food processor, add hazelnuts and process until they start to form a smooth nut butter. You can add a bit of water here to get things moving.

2. Use a double boiler method to melt the coconut oil and cacao paste, stir in the honey and add this liquid to the hazelnuts.

3. Add salt, blend everything together until super smooth, adding water as you go to achieve desired consistency.

How to Mix Coconut Oil and Baking Soda for a Face-Cleaning Like You’ve Never Had Before

There is a lot of trust placed into the claims of skin care products. They advertise ‘flawless skin,’ ‘disappearing acne,’ and ‘natural beauty,’ and we buy the products to try it for ourselves.

Examining the back of a facial cleanser is a bit nerve-wracking. What do all those terms mean?

Even if you ask someone with knowledge on the subject, you won’t get a proper answer since many of the words are unrecognizable.

Who can say what these treatments are really doing to your face?

The Inside View on What You Are Rubbing On Your Face

When it specifically comes to your skin care, in addition to the unhealthy ingredients, many products are put on the market without proper testing:

“There are industry trade secrets and formulations that for industry reasons are kept from the consumer,” says Elizabeth Sword, executive director of the Children’s Health Environmental Coalition. “This prevents the consumer from making fully informed decisions.”

There is a way to separate yourself from these health risks and to eliminate skin blemishes at the same time: making your own facial scrub.

Coconut Oil as a Facial Moisturizer

Coconut oil has antimicrobial and moisturizing abilities that are perfect for cleaning your face. It will kill the bacteria that creates pimples. The oil will moisturize the skin and won’t make it feel like sandpaper as many other products do.

It is also an anti-inflammatory which can alleviate the symptoms of eczema, psoriasis, and other skin conditions. Viva Naturals makes a fantastic organic coconut oil that will leave your skin glowing.

Baking Soda for the Skin

We know baking soda to be a rising agent in foods, but it is also an excellent face exfoliator, which is particularly helpful for removing blackheads. Your skin will feel very soft after rubbing this scrub on your face.

Since baking soda also soothes sunburns, this facial cleanser is a good choice for those who burn easily. Need more reasons to use baking soda? It’s inexpensive!

DIY Coconut Oil and Baking Soda Facial Scrub

Using coconut oil as a facial moisturizer will change the way you view your skin.

An added bonus is that you probably have these ingredients in your kitchen already. You just didn’t realize how beneficial they are for your skin.

Ingredients:

– 1/2 cup coconut oil

– 1/2 cup baking soda

– That’s it!

Method:

If your coconut oil is warm and more liquidy, it will be easier to use. Simply mix the two ingredients together until they are completely combined, and the texture is a bit gritty.

Place it in a shallow jar for easy access. Scrub your face as usual, but feel the enormous difference!

8 Types Of Food You Must Never Eat If You Suffer From Joint Pain!

The Joints form the very connections in between our bones. They offer support that helps you move. Any harm to the joints through disease or even injury may interfere with your own movement as well as cause a large amount of pain.

A variety of conditions can result in painful joints, including osteoarthritis, bursitis, gout, rheumatoid arthritis, sprains, along with other injuries. Pain in the joints is actually very typical.

In one nationwide survey, around one-third of the adults noted having some joint pain in the previous 30 days. Knees pain is the most frequent problem, followed by the shoulder joint and the hip, however, joint pain can impact any section of your own body, from the ankles together with feet, to your shoulders along with hands.

When you get older, uncomfortable and hurting joints come to be increasingly more typical.

Joint pain may range from slightly annoying to unbearable. It might go away for a few days or weeks (acute), or it can last for numerous months (chronic). Also, short-term pain or swelling within the joints can impact your quality of living.

1. SUGAR

We all love those doughnuts, chocolates and other sweets, but you will want to avoid them if you are afflicted by joint pain. Highly processed sugars induce the discharge of inflammation messengers better known as cytokines.

This includes sugars in chocolate, candy, sodas as well as cereals along with other snacks. Extra sugar in your body also places pressure on the joints and may lead to putting on weight.

2. MONOSODIUM GLUTAMATE

Monosodium glutamate better known as MSG is really a flavor-enhancing ingredient that is most often found in the soy sauce as well as Asian meals.

But it can be found in junk food meals, pre-prepared soups and sauces as well as soup blends, salad dressings and also deli meat. MSG may trigger inflammatory reactions in the body as well as worsen the joint pain.

3. ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES

Alcohol is not just tough on your liver. Excessive drinking also has an adverse effect on your joint pain. Beer consists of purines.

They are converted directly into uric acid crystals in the body, that is extremely bad for your joint pain. Light beer also consists of gluten, which may be harmful to delicate joints.

4. REFINED CARBS

White flour goods just like bread along with crackers, white colored rice, white colored potatoes and lots of cereals tend to be refined carbs.

Studies have demonstrated that highly processed carbs are usually the main reasons for obesity along with other chronic disorders.

These foods have got some very high glycemic index. They fuel the creation of AGE, which induces inflammation.

5. RED-COLORED AND PROCESSED MEAT

Both red-colored and the processed meats incorporate purine as well as nitrate.

These types of chemicals worsen pain as well as inflammation in your body.

Studies have demonstrated that red-colored and highly processed meats not just trigger the swelling, they also assist in cancer development.

6. DAIRY GOODS

For most people, dairy products are an extremely inflammatory meal. Studies have demonstrated that most of the adults have at the very least some trouble digesting dairy, regardless of whether they know about it or they don’t.

If you make dairy a big part of your diet plan it can cause an inflammatory reaction. If you happen to suffer from joint pain, it’s better to keep milk products off your diet plan.

7. SODIUM

Many packed and pre-made meals consist of excessive levels of salt along with other preservatives to be able to promote lengthier shelf life.

Refined sodium is full of additives as well as chemicals which disrupt the actual fluid equilibrium in your body. Focus on what’s within your food. Stay away from junk food as well as microwaveable servings.

If you would like to utilize salt whenever cooking, substitute the common table salt with the much healthier Pink Himalayan salt.

8. CORN OILS

Many snack foods and baked goodies contain corn oil and also other natural oils that are full of omega-6 essential fatty acids. Studies have demonstrated that these types of oils can cause swelling.

Avoid peanuts, soy, dressings for salad and grape seeds oil. Substitute meals that are made up of omega-6 acids with the much healthier anti-inflammatory omega-3 alternatives like olive oil, nut products, pumpkin seed products and flax seed.

Psychologists Warn: NEVER Use These 5 Phrases When Talking To Your Child…

When we are born, our parents are EVERYTHING we have in this world.

They are someone we turn to for support, guidance, and safety. They are someone we look up to tell us the rules of this mystery we are born into.

The truth is we are all human and we all make mistakes. However, to a child’s mind its parents are something A LOT more than just a human.

They are its creators, its caretakers, its guardians, and they’ve lived here before it was even born. Our mother and father are our goddess and god when we are young. They are the only thing we are familiar with in the midst of this vast unknown.

That’s the reason why what parents do and how they behave becomes a crucial part of their children’s psyche.

They are an example mold for our early consciousness, something to look from when it develops our character.

The way we talk to our children becomes their inner voice!

Our brain has a lot more neural connections when we are young. It absorbs almost everything that happens around us with a purpose to better adapt in its surroundings.

As we grow up it holds on only to the most used neural connections and it gets rid of everything that we don’t commonly use.

Our mother’s and father’s voice is something that gets integrated deeply into our psyche, it becomes our inner voice.

The way they speak to us becomes the way our inner voice speaks to us, the way we speak to ourselves.

If they are angry most of the time they speak to us, if they are harsh and cold, if they shout and yell whenever we do something wrong, that’s how we’ll deal with ourselves whenever we make a mistake.

But as we said, we are all human, we make mistakes and that’s ok. The way you approach the mistakes is how you learn and overcome them.

How to speak to your child?

An insulting inner voice can prevent us from trying new things by making us feel worthless whenever we make a mistake.

While a friendly inner voice can be our greatest support, guide and motivator in life.

That’s why it is crucial to speak to your child with kindness, love and honesty even if they make a mistake, or do something wrong.

You will develop a voice inside their head that will support them in life whenever they need support, even when you are not there.

Or at least you can try to avoid saying these phrases:

They are extremely damaging to a child’s developing character!

“Stop crying right now!”

Usually when a kid does something it knows will be punished for they start crying. But even though there is no reason for them to cry, that’s their emotion.

They have all the right in the world to express how they feel. By saying this you are slowly programming your child to suppress its emotions.

Instead you should kindly say: “It’s ok to cry sweety, it’s ok to show how you feel. But that doesn’t make what you did a right thing to do.” Hug, and explain why it is wrong what they did.

“You are worthless!”

This is possibly the worst thing you can say to a child. Especially when you are the person and the mental figure they expect most of to be given approval of.

By saying this, you are putting your child on a never ending journey to seek approval from the outside world. Instead of helping them find their own worth inside, you are letting them believe they have nothing inside to find.

There are so many things you can say instead of this, like: “You can do better!”, “Nobody is perfect.”, “It’s not your day, you’ll do better next time.”

“Big boys/girls don’t get scared!”

First of all, why are you lying to your kid. You are probably more frightened than they are throughout your day. Second, you are forcing them to reject what they are honestly feeling.

Fear is not a bad thing, it reminds us when to be careful. You should not run away from it but face it, be aware, learn from it. And real courage is not being fearless, but facing your fear even if you are terrified.

Instead of this, tell your kid: “It’s ok to be scared buddy. All of us are scared sometimes. But I know there is courage inside you that will help you do the right thing even if you are scared. You are my little hero!”

“I am disappointed in you!”

Parents usually tell this to their children when they already feel bad. Trying to make them responsible for your disappointment is pretty selfish. You can be disappointed in a friend, you can be disappointed in a movie, or even your country’s politics, but you can’t be disappointed in your child.

You are there to let them on a right path. So when they do something wrong, guide them back. Your disappointment is in your guidance, not your child. Teach your child what that they did is wrong and why.

Instead of this, tell your kid: “What you did is wrong, in my opinion. And I believe you made an honest mistake. Even if you chose to do what you did, I can assure you’ll realize it’s wrong after I explain. I know you can do better!”

“You are not [something] enough!”

By saying this to your children you are showing them a pretty restricted image of themselves. You are implying that there is something they are lacking in order for them to do what they love or be who they want to be.

Even though you are not saying that they are not enough, you are programming their mindset that way. They are enough to be themselves.

They always are. A tree is enough to be a tree even when it is only a seed. But it needs to grow in order to become what it is.

Instead of this, tell your kid: “You are enough to be or do what you love. But sometimes we all need to train or practice something before, in order to grow that way.”
