Jennifer Lopez has officially filed for divorce from Ben Affleck, marking the end of their second marriage anniversary and closing the chapter on Bennifer 2.0. However, it appears the couple had been separated for quite some time before Lopez made the filing.
Fans of the iconic duo had been holding out hope for a reconciliation, but it turns out that things had ended much earlier than anticipated. According to the court documents from Lopez’s filing, she revealed that the couple actually split four months ago. Lopez cited April 26, 2024, as the official date of separation, a time when few suspected that anything was amiss.
Despite the looming split, the pair was seen together as recently as March and February, during press events for Lopez’s This Is Me…Now projects. However, suspicions arose when Affleck was noticeably absent from the 2024 Met Gala, with eagle-eyed fans noting that the couple hadn’t been photographed together for 47 days. At the time, Affleck’s representative told E! that his absence was due to filming The Accountant 2.
Lopez’s divorce filing also carries significant weight, as it was submitted on what would have been their two-year wedding anniversary. According to People, Lopez chose to file without a lawyer, making her technically self-represented. A source told People that the timing of her filing was intentional: “She was done waiting, and the date she chose says a lot.” The insider also noted that by filing first, Lopez “gains control of the process,” which is a positive move for her.
Neither Lopez nor Affleck has publicly addressed the divorce, but sources indicate that Lopez is “disappointed” by Affleck’s lack of effort in mending their relationship.
“She’s very disappointed and sad,” the source shared with People. “But Ben hasn’t shown any willingness to work on their marriage. He hasn’t demonstrated the commitment needed, and she’s reached a point where she needs to prioritize herself.”
