After months of speculation, the relationship famously dubbed “Bennifer 2.0” has come to an end. As Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck marked their second wedding anniversary, Lopez took the step to officially file for divorce, signaling her intent to move on. The filing, submitted to the Los Angeles County Superior Court on August 20, also reveals a significant detail about the couple’s financial arrangements. According to reports from Page Six, Lopez and Affleck did not sign a prenuptial agreement before their Georgia wedding in July 2022.

The lack of a prenuptial agreement, as detailed in a financial information sheet accompanying the divorce petition, suggests that the couple’s assets may now be subject to division. Without a prenup, the law views Lopez and Affleck as equal partners in any income, properties, or assets acquired during their marriage. This means that everything from earnings to real estate and even potential debts could be split between them.

This financial situation could be a major loss for Lopez, whose net worth is estimated to be around $400 million, with an annual income of $40 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. During their marriage, Lopez launched her Delola cocktail brand and appeared in several films, including Shotgun Wedding, This Is Me…Now, and Atlas. She also released her album This Is Me…Now in 2023. Affleck, with an estimated net worth of $150 million, starred in Air and Hypnotic, and produced The Instigators. It remains unclear if the $20 million Los Angeles home Affleck recently purchased will be considered community property.

Interestingly, Lopez’s filing did not address the absence of a prenup but did request the court to waive spousal support for both parties, as reported by TMZ. Despite the lack of a settlement, Lopez reportedly filed the paperwork on her own, without legal representation.

Lopez’s decision to end the marriage comes amid reports that she had grown tired of waiting for things to improve. After spending the summer apart, a source told People that Lopez was heartbroken but felt it was time to move forward. “She tried her best to make it work, but in the end, the kids are her priority,” the source shared.

The actress cited April 26, 2024, as the date of separation and was reportedly disappointed by Affleck’s lack of effort in their relationship. “She’s sad and disappointed,” another source told People. “But Ben hasn’t shown the commitment needed to make their marriage work, leaving her with no choice but to focus on herself.”
