Why Our Grandparents Didn’t Have Food Allergies, But We Do

Did your grandparents have food allergies? Mine sure didn’t. A stark comparison to the growing epidemic of food allergies, worsening with every generation.  According to a study released in 2013 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, food allergies among children increased approximately 50% between 1997 and 2011.

Although it can be argued that food allergy and/or food sensitivity testing wasn’t really around back in the day and that there was much less of a focus on these concerns as a whole, there is clearly an increase of documented food allergy cases happening today.

So what could be some of the reasons that your grandparents didn’t have food allergies?

7 Reasons Why Your Grandparents Didn’t Have Food Allergies

1) They ate real seasonal food.

Food came from farms and small markets in the early 1900′s, and because food preservatives were not widely used yet, the food was fresh. Because of the lack of processed food, their diets were nutrient dense allowing them to get the nutrition they needed from their food.

For babies, breast milk was valued, and it was always in season.

2) They didn’t diet and play restrictive games with their body and metabolism. They ate food when food was available.

Our grandparents did not fall victim to fad diets, food marketing, calorie counting, and other detrimental dieting habits that are popular today (in part because the marketing infrastructure didn’t exist yet). Because of this they had a healthy metabolism and ate according to their body’s needs and cravings.

3) They cooked food at home, using traditional preparation methods from scratch.

Buying processed food was not an option, and eating out was a rare luxury. Lucky for our grandparents these habits actually increased their health.

4) They didn’t eat GMO’s, food additives, stabilizers, and thickeners.

The food was not yet treated with additives, antibiotics, and hormones to help preserve shelf life and pad the pockets of food producers in the early 1900′s at the expense of the consumer’s health.

5) They ate the whole animal that included mineral rich bone broths and organ meats.

Animal bones were saved or bought to make broths and soups, and organ meats always had a special place at the dinner table. These foods were valued for their medicinal properties, and never went to waste.

6) They didn’t go to the doctor when they felt sick or take prescription medications.

Doctor visits were saved for accidental injuries and life-threatening illness.

When they got a fever, they waited it out. When they felt sick, they ate soups, broths and got lots of rest. They did not have their doctor or nurse on speed dial and trusted the body’s natural healing process a whole lot more than we do today. Their food was medicine, whether they realized it or not.

7) They spent lots of time outside.

Our grandparents didn’t have the choice to stay inside and play on their phones, computers, and gaming systems.

They played on the original play-station: bikes, swing sets, and good ol’ mother nature!

What Do These Things Have To Do With Food Allergies?

Nutrition affects EVERY cell in our body. The health of our cells is dependent on diet and lifestyle. Cells create tissues; tissues create organs, and we are made up of a system of organs. If your nutrition is inadequate, the integrity of each cell, tissue, and organ in your body will suffer. Thus you may be MORE sensitive to certain foods.

Women gave birth to triplets – the last baby emerges and everybody freezes: she’s still in her caul!

With the majority of women giving birth to one baby at a time, twins, triplets and any more seem like a miracle to most of us. But, one woman really can claim a miracle when she gave birth to her triplets.

What happened to this lady was something the doctors and delivery staff around her will probably never see again in their lifetime. Thankfully it was captured on film. The images are amazing but not for the faint hearted.

The amniotic sac surrounds us in the womb ensuring a protective layer; it’s a protective yolk-like sac that forms around the baby in the early stages of development and provides nourishment. When it’s time for baby to enter the world it breaks free of the sac, as it’s no longer required.

In this case two of these rare triplets were born still in their amniotic sac or en-caul. It’s not dangerous and the doctor can easily pop it like a balloon but it’s extremely rare.

Dr. Rodrigo da Rosa Filho delivered a boy Joaquim, who was born with an intact sac and was quickly freed but his sweet sister Adeline, who was also en-caul, was sound asleep and the doctor didn’t have the heart to wake her.

Staff waited patiently and eventually she was ready to open her eyes!

Approximately 1 in 80,000 births are en-caul, with the majority of them being earlier-than-expected deliveries. It these cases it’s actually a good thing, because experts believe that being immersed inside the sac actually helps protect premature babes against mom’s strong contractions.

You can even see the nurse tickling the baby girl’s feet and even that doesn’t wake her, she’s very content in her protective sac.

In a translation of the doctor’s Instagram post, he tells everyone:

“Yesterday we birthed the triplets! And Joaquim was born veiled (when the waters/sac does not break). We were delighted. But then came Adeline…she was also born en caul, and left us all admiring her as she slept soundly. We stayed (that way) for seven minutes observing her behavior as if it were still inside her belly. It’s the magic of life.”

It took seven minutes before Adeline was finally ready to make her grand entrance. But she had already entertained staff with her amazing slumber while still in her sac.

This footage is so rare and we’re so lucky that Dr. Rodrigo da Rosa Filho has shared it with the world. Please continue to spread this amazing footage and share with all those who you think would appreciate it.

Dealing with a Drug Addict: A 4-Step Guide for Helping an Addicted Loved One

Dealing with a drug addict is hard. It’s a hundred times harder when it’s a loved one. Read this 4-step guide for helping an addicted relative or friend.

Dealing with drug addiction is a very difficult thing to do. Research has shown that 1 in 10 Americans have had a drug abuse problem, and illicit drug use is on the rise. Something needs to change.

If your loved one is in the grip of addiction, you’ll be wondering what you can do to help them. Dealing with a drug addict isn’t easy, and it can leave you feeling exhausted.

But with your support and help, you can help them on their way to recovery. There are lots of things you can do to support them and help them break free from addiction.

Dealing with a Drug Addict

Those who suffer from addiction may also suffer from mental health issues too. They may also have physical pain, both of these may be short-term or could be long-lasting.

There are a lot of different drugs people can get addicted to. Everything from heroin to alcohol can wreck people’s lives. We’re aware of the opioid and benzodiazepine crisis America is facing right now. This addiction is damaging and although they’re prescribed, it doesn’t mean they’re safe.

No matter what they may be addicted to, you can do something to help. Here are 4 ways you can help.

1. Stage an Intervention

The first step is to let them know they have a problem and need help. They may be in denial about their addiction and need someone to open their eyes to it.

It doesn’t have to be like the interventions you see on TV where they gather everyone the addict knows. It can be one on one but you need to let them know they have a problem.

Seeing their family and friends so concerned may be the push they need to seek help.

2. Help Them Trust You

Addiction is a demon to battle with and can make people difficult to deal with. They may not want to admit that they’re addicted. They may find it embarrassing to discuss their problem. They may fear the repercussions of going public with their addiction.

But if you can help them trust you, they might open up more. Don’t judge them or put them down. Don’t nag or criticize them. Don’t engage in addictive behaviors yourself either. Don’t try to control them or they’ll pull away from you.

If they have someone to trust, it will help them through the battle.

3. Communicate Your Feelings

An addict won’t seek help unless they actually want it, and you can’t force them to seek it. But, you can communicate your feelings with them and encourage them to get better.

Remind them about how much you and others love them. Let them know that they have a problem and that you’re there to help them through the recovery process.

Don’t let them feel threatened by this. Be gentle and tell them that their addiction is hurting them and others around them. Keeping an open line of communication can help them open up and get them to seek help.

4. Seek Treatment

If your loved one does decide to get help, there are lots of treatment options you can choose.

There’s therapy, self-help, medication, rehabilitation and more. There are lots of ways to go depending on how severe the addiction is and you can help them through it. They may want to involve you with their recovery or they may not.

You need to respect their decision either way and let them know that you’re there for them. Respect their privacy and don’t put any big expectations on them. Be supporting and optimistic and in time, they could beat their addiction for good.

Help Them Beat Addiction for Good

Dealing with a drug addict isn’t easy, but you can help them get better. These four steps are great ways to show you love and care for them and want them to get better. With your support, you can help them break free from their addiction.

Meet the Kid Who’s Never Eaten a Gram of Refined Sugar in Her Life- Here’s What She Looks Like Today

Sugar addiction is a global problem, and our children are raised believing that sugar and sweets are a reward for being good or a way to celebrate a special occasion.

Thus, the birthday cakes are the most important thing on a birthday party, our holiday tables are full of sweets and just think about the entire celebration of Easter, with the chocolate bunnies, or Halloween, and Trick-or-treating.

Yet, the mother of a two-and-a-half-year-old girl, Grace Cooper, decided to omit refined sugar, dairy, grains, and processed foods from her diet, and follow the Paleo diet.

Her breakfast contains carrots, roasted sweet potatoes, eggs in coconut oil, steamed broccoli, a quarter of an avocado, and a spoonful of sauerkraut, while her dinner consists of organic chicken and vegetables.

Shan, the mother of Grace, claims that her daughter’s immune system is extremely strong, so she has only had one cold so far. Yet, she maintains that even though she will still guide Grace, when she is older, she will not force her to follow this diet.

Despite sugar, baby food is full of chemicals, sodium, preservatives, lead, and fluoride, all of which can have disastrous effects on the health of children and toddlers.

On the other hand, as the taste buds of babies are developing and sensitive, there is no need of eating refined foods, since they can be perfectly satisfied with some organic source of sugar.

Numerous baby foods are extremely high in sugar, even though their labels are deceiving. Namely, the vegetables and fruits are processed using ultra-high heat and shipped to baby food manufactures, which boil them down, eliminating most of the nutrients, and leaving only the high sugar levels.

For instance, take a look at the nutritional values of two 71- gram servings of commercial banana purees and an actual mashed banana:

Mashed banana

*Sugar: 8.7 grams (naturally occurring )

Sodium: < 1 milligram

Fiber: 1.8 grams

Earth’s Best 1st Bananas

*Sugar: 12 grams

 Sodium: 20 milligrams

Fiber: 1 gram

*4 grams = 1 teaspoon of sugar

Gerber 1st Foods Banana Purée

*Sugar: 13 grams

Sodium: 5 milligrams

Fiber: < 1 gram

When it comes to the safe amount of sugar our children can consume, according to Dr. Svetlana Pomerantes, MD:

“Let’s start by looking at American Heart Association (AHA) recommendations. The new guidelines call for less than 25 grams (6 teaspoons) of sugar per day for children ages 2 to 18 years. That includes no more than 8 ounces of sugar-sweetened drinks per week. I advise parents to read food labels, find ‘sugar,’ and do the math — every 4 grams of sugar equals 1 teaspoon. “

She continues:

“The worst sugars are in processed foods, sports drinks, pop, desserts, and fruit juice. Don’t rush to introduce fruit juice — it has no nutritional value.”

Similarly,  Dr. Edward Gaydos, DO, says:

“Children younger than 2 years should have no sugar at all”, and adds that “eating brings joy, but that joy should be geared toward the process of satisfying hunger and spending time with family. Children can’t choose a well-balanced diet. But adults can, and should — right from the beginning.”

Sugar is highly addictive and leads to obesity and type-2 diabetes, you should work hard to lower your child’s consumption of refined sugars, and here are some useful tips:

-Lower your sugar intake to set an example

-Try to eat at home as often as possible

-Try to explain the benefits of healthy foods and make sure you have food rules when going out

-Avoid keeping sugar-rich foods at home

-Explain your goals to other members of your family, so they can support you

-Do not reward your children with candy

Yet, if you have a sweet tooth, do not despair, as you do not need to forget about desserts if you decide to ditch refined sugar from your diet, since there are perfectly healthy alternatives you can use instead, like honey and pure maple syrup.

Baby Born Deaf Gets Life-Changing Surgery, Moment He Hears Music For First Time Goes Viral

The ability to see and hear is a gift and it opens up so many doors and pleasures in life, that it’s hard to imagine life without being able to use our eyes and ears to get through the days.

Like most things in life, we don’t appreciate these gifts until we lose them or in some cases if we are born without them.

Fifteen-month-old Owen Montoya was born deaf, which was exceptionally difficult for his musically-inclined parents. Naturally, they hoped he would follow in their footsteps and appreciate music in the same way that they did.

Learning a parent’s voice is one of the first things that a baby does when it comes to recognizing their caretakers and it doesn’t take long for most babies to pick up on the inflections and tones of their mom and dad’s voice.

Babies don’t even have to be facing the parent for them to recognize that they are in the room and will show feelings of excitement and happiness when they hear that memorized voice.

But, Owen never had the chance to learn his mom and dad’s voice, until recently, after he underwent surgery to place a cochlear implant in his left ear.

And from that moment on, the boy’s life changed forever.

In the video below, you can witness Owen experiencing sound for the first time and it’s clear that this added sense is bringing him joy, right along with his parents.

He can be seen smiling at simple things that we take for granted every day, like the gurgling sound made from lips. Owen is clearly in awe when he smiles at the noises erupting from his caretaker’s lips.

He even points to the lips, recognizing where the noise is coming from. And then, he is seen sitting at the dinner table while listening to music.

This is where Owen really shows his newfound love for music, and he starts dancing in his seat as if its the most natural thing in the world for him.

He’s bouncing side to side and waving his arms around showing off his love of the tunes. The entire time, he is bobbing his head up and down with a huge grin on his face.

This surgery was certainly a life changer for both Owen and his family.

“We were so excited to see him enjoying music this much, it was the craziest moment ever,” said his mother, Janae Montoya, 26.

“When we found out Owen was deaf, it was very hard for us, because our family is very musical. I’ve always wanted him to experience it.”

It’s like witnessing someone opening up a gift for the first time and luckily his parents will be able to watch these videos forever and show Owen how happy he was when he was blessed with the newfound ability to hear.

All of our senses are given to us as a gift in life and because we are born with them and they are all we know, we sometimes take them for granted.

7 Psychological Problems That Are Linked To Poor Parenting

Being a parent is the most responsible and difficult job ever, as parents need to raise their children properly and help them grow up to be kind, educated, smart, loving human beings with good manners.

Children absorb every word said, every action, and behavior, and these affect the way they feel, act, and think.

Poor parenting causes multiple issues in the lives of children, and these are 7 psychological problems that may occur:

1.Suppression of emotions

Children will imitate their parents, so if you suppress your emotions and feeling, your child will start hiding the way it feels, and it will become an introvert and closed person.

2.Low self-esteem

Parents should never compare their child to someone else, as this leads to low self-esteem and inferior behavior.

3.Anxiety and depression

Children that have been often criticized often become depressed and anxious, as they lack independence, and become fearful in life.

4.Suppression of talents and lack of initiative

Allow your children to dream, and do not suppress their talents. They should grow into initiative adults and never give up on their dreams.

5.Trust issues

Your child will trust no one if you keep telling him/her that nobody can be trusted.

6.Lack of independence

Your child will be immature and irresponsible if you over-control or overprotect it. It should not grow dependent on you or others, as it won’t be able to make his most important decisions in life.

7.Depression and guilt

When you keep repeating that you have sacrificed a lot for your children, they will start feeling depressed and guilty, and will believe that they are unworthy when adults.

17 Magnesium Filled Foods That Can Lower Your Risk of Anxiety, Depression, Heart Attacks And More

Magnesium is the key to optimal health and proper biological function. Not only is the 4th most abundant mineral in our bodies, but there have been found over 3,750 magnesium-binding sites on human proteins in our bodies, too.

In fact, over 300 enzymes rely on this nutrient for optimal function. This tells a lot about its importance for our biochemical processes, most of which are vital for pepper metabolic function. This includes:

– Proper formation of bones and teeth

– Regulation of blood sugar and insulin sensitivity

– Creation of ATP (adenosine triphosphate)

– Relaxation of blood vessels

– Muscle and nerve function

Lack of Magnesium Can Trigger Serious Health Problems

Lack of cellular magnesium leads to deterioration of cellular metabolic function, which eventually causes some serious health issues.

This includes anxiety and depression, migraine headaches, cardiovascular disease, sudden cardiac death, fibromyalgia, and death from all causes.

Magnesium is important to body`s detoxification processes as well, including the synthesis of glutathione.

Ultimately, magnesium is needed for optimization of mitochondria,  which is of utmost importance for cancer prevention and general athletic and energy performance.

The Importance of Magnesium for Mitochondrial Health

Mitochondria are organelles found within the cells. All organs need energy to function normally, and that energy, known as ATP, is mostly produced in the mitochondria.

Growing evidence suggests that most health problems stem from mitochondrial dysfunction, so getting the precursors and nutrients that the mitochondria needs is extremely important for the overall health, exercise performance, and disease prevention.

According to mitochondrial researcher Rhonda Patrick, Ph.D., magnesium plays an important role for mitochondrial health, primarily because the oxidative capacity depends on mitochondria`s ability to produce energy within the cells.

How Much Magnesium Do You Need?

About a century ago, people received nearly 500 mg of magnesium from daily diet, due to the nutrient-dense soil in which their food was grown.

These days, people only get about 150-300 mg daily from dietary sources.

The RDA is around 310-420 mg daily, depending on age and sex, while some researchers suggest taking as much as 600-900 mg for optimal health.

According to Dr. Carolyn Dean, the intestinal reaction can be used as a marker for the right dose. Start by taking 200 mg of magnesium citrate daily and gradually increase the dose until you experience loose stools.

As for magnesium supplements, magnesium threonate is one of the best options. It is extremely effective in penetrating cell membranes, including the mitochondria and blood-brain barrier.

Risk Factors, Signs and Symptoms of Magnesium Deficiency

Eating a heavily processed diet is the major risk for magnesium deficiency as magnesium resides in chlorophyll molecule.

Eating leafy greens and other magnesium-dense foods once in a while means that you are not getting enough of it from your diet.

Magnesium is also lost through lack of sleep, prescription drug use (fluoride, statins, antibiotics), stress, and alcohol consumption.

All of these factors affect a large percentage of Americans, so the fact that 50-80% of Americans are deficient in magnesium doesn’t come as surprise.

Some of the earliest signs of magnesium deficiency include muscle spasms, migraines, headaches, fatigue, weakness, nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite.

Chronic magnesium deficiency can lead to problems like seizures, numbness, tingling, abnormal heart rhythms, coronary spasms, and personality changes.

What Are the Foods High in Magnesium?

Eating dark-green leafy veggies is one of the best ways to boost your magnesium levels as well as to maintain healthy levels. Juicing these greens is a good way to get the most of them! The leafy greens with the highest amount of magnesium include

– Kale

– Bok Choy

– Turnip Greens

– Collard Greens

– Beet Greens

– Swiss Chard

– Romaine Lettuce

– Brussel Sprouts

– Broccoli

– Spinach

Other foods that are particularly rich in magnesium include:

– Raw cacao nibs and/or unsweetened cocoa powder

– Avocados

– Fruits and berries

– Squash

– Seeds and nuts

– Herbs and spices (cumin, parsley, mustard seeds, fennel)

– Fatty fish

When Supplementing, Balance Your Magnesium with Calcium, Vitamin K2, and D

When one relies on supplements, it is important to understand how nutrients affect and interact with each other.

For instance, it is of utmost importance to balance between magnesium, calcium, vitamin K2, and vitamin D. These nutrients work in synergy and any imbalance increases the risk of stroke, heart attacks, and vitamin D toxicity.

– The best ratio between magnesium and calcium is 1:1. Note that the need for supplemental magnesium might be two times greater than calcium given that you are likely to get more calcium from your diet

– According to Dr. Kate Rheaume-Bleue, for every 1,000 IU’s of vitamin D you take, you may need from about 100 micrograms (mcg) of K2

– As for the vitamin D intake, get your vitamin D level tested twice annually to determine your personal dosage

WIFE WRITES ANGRY LETTER TO THE ‘OTHER’ WOMAN

This wife found evidence from the “other woman” her husband was cheating with and she writes her a vicious online letter. You might think it’s crazy, but she probably knows that her intended reader will find it for sure.

What do you think? Is she justified in her response or should she take the high road and just move on?

THANKS Jennifer…

For leaving bite marks all over my husbands chest last night.

No, really, Thank You! You have no idea what a nightmare you have just saved me and my kids from.

To reward you for your services I am offering you my husband for keeps.

Should you accept your prize please note the following rules.

1. You are going to have to financially support him. I say this because we have 2 children together (but you knew that) which means that he will have to give up a sizeable chunk of his pay to support them in the manner they deserve.

Please keep in mind that since he has kept me a stay at home Mom for the better part of the last 11 years he will also be paying me alimony. So forget about his money honey cause it’s mine!

2. You will have to provide him with new attire. You see after he stepped from our (now mine) shower this morning dripping wet and naked is when I discovered your little “love bites”.

It just so happened that at that EXACT moment a giant black hole appeared in my home and devoured almost all of his clothing. Therefore he will come to you almost naked (lucky you).

The bright side is that you can dress him any way you want. Go nuts and buy him a leash and some vinyl attire or a cute little dress while your at it.

3. You will have to give him up every other weekend. This time will be set aside for his visits with his children. Since he openly admitted (in front of several people) that you are just “some dumb drunk b***h” that he met at a “tweakers” house you will be banned from these visits for fear of my children’s safety.

Just so you know, that is also going to be the reason to have his visits limited (if not supervised). After all WTF was HE doing at a “tweakers” house in the first place?

4. You will not be having a proper s3x life. Yes, I know that you didn’t scr3w him last night. Since his back injury 4 years ago his “equipment” hasn’t worked right.

Too bad for you because before that it was THE BEST S3X EVER and we scr3wed all the time! However, now he’ll most likely disappoint you with his half hard member that only works with a little blue pill. Please don’t let that fool you.

The little blue pill means that he comes within 2 minutes…. hardly enough time for you and 98% of the time he will just be too embarrassed to even try.  Stock up on your batteries and/or multiple s3x partners!

By the way, No it CANNOT be fixed. It’s nerve damage sweetie, deal with it!

5. You will NOT return him to me. I will NOT have him. He messed up when he touched you! I was a good wife to him and he had a good thing going on here.

Don’t be surprised if you don’t live up to me because you won’t and he will make you miserable for it!

6. He will blame you for ALL of this. He told me, with tears in his eyes, that you giggled to him “I hope your wife sees that”. I don’t know if you said it or not. I don’t really care. However, just in case you did, your wish came true.

I did see it, and he’s pissed. He’s so mad that you made that comment that when I punched him in the eye after he apologized to me! Yes, I know violence is wrong and to be honest I’ve never hit anyone before.

However, I am not sorry that I did and if I could have that moment back I would have simply aimed lower!

7. This one isn’t really a rule, more like a friendly warning. I will make sure to take up as much of his time with the most petty crap I can find to spite you.

I will make it my hobby to hurt him and you the same amount my kids are hurting right now. Please be aware that he will take it, he will deal with it for years with a smile. I was with him for 12 years, I know him better.

Yes, I do feel completely justified in my actions. Just in case you were wondering.

So Thank you, Jennifer the dumb drunk b***h from the tweakers house who left bite marks on my husband chest last night, for showing me that 11 years and 2 children were no match for you! I applaud you on a man well won. HE’S ALL YOURS!
